A AUCTIONEER’S PRAYER
Lord, let me be your ring man
In this auction we call “life”.
Help me keep enthusiasm
And avoid any strife.
When the bids are slow in coming,
Let me trust you for each one.
When
they come too fast to handle,
Don’t let pride destroy the fun.
Let me treat each man with fairness
Even when they treat me bad.
‘Cause I don’t know all their problems
And the hard times that they’ve had.
When I fail to see a hand up,
Or make a call that’s wrong,
Please forgive me just as I forgive,
And keep my patience strong.
When the work’s too much to handle,
Let me stop to take a breath;
Pause a while, make a smile,
And thank you for my health.
Then when all the bidding’s over,
And Your gavel comes down quiet,
Take me home to be with You,
And tell me, “Son, you did all right.”
